It was the first week of May and spring was finally here that I met up with the Hesbach family. I hold a special place in my heart for Emma’s physical therapist, Amie, and was so happy to be able to meet her family and see her outside the hospital. Emma had her knee replacement 1 year ago today. I know how over-dramatic I was/am about it, but when you have an active dog and lifestyle and you’re told you have to stay put and keep quiet for 8 weeks which turned into 8 months, while planning a wedding across the country, my dramatic attitude took over. You see, the surgeon told me Emma would be ready to run and back to normal in 8 weeks. This was not even close to the truth. She still had a scrawny right leg 4 months later. We were seeing Amie once a week to try to build muscle but she was still not allowed to run or participate in any fun summer activities. Visiting Amie was not only for Emma’s weekly PT session, but it became a therapy session for me as well. I can’t thank her enough for all that she did for Emma (and me!) during her recovery.
