A couple tidbits about their wedding: You’ll see Travis, their lucky duck, make an appearance here as he did in their engagement photos. As you know about their love of the Red Sox, their signature drink was the “Green Monster”, and they had photos of their pup, Wally, scattered throughout. One of my favorite parts of the day was when they first saw each other. I knew Angela was going to be a wreck (xo!) so I made her stand in front of KB, eyes closed, until they were ready to open them. When they opened their eyes, Angela grabbed KB’s hands and shouted “You are wearing that dress!”. Yes, yes she was. You both are stunning – inside and out. I, along with my pal Lara, were lucky to be there to capture it all.

We started in the South End where they had their first apartment together, hit the public gardens after where Sam proposed, and ended at the Thinking Cup coffee shop where they went immediately after! I am so looking forward to their wedding next month! Here are some of my favies. xoxo

I couldn’t stop laughing the whole time I was with them. We went all around their neighborhood, visited the Jefferson Monument, the arboretum, and hung out in cute downtown Alexandria. I am one of those people who always needs to know what kind of trees are around me. There was one we couldn’t identify and Lou had an app on his phone that will tell you what kind of tree a leaf is from. I love these two! As they showed me around their town (while pointing out secret speakeasies – WHAT?!) we kept stopping places for a nosh and a cocktail – just how I like to spend my afternoons! Lou is an amazing cocktail maker, and I had my first and second ever fizz cocktails – yum. Oh, and a manhattan that was the best manhattan I’ve ever tasted. Lou! Leave the recipe in comments, ok? :) Once I got home I may have become slightly obsessed with angostura bitters in my bubbly water. ANYWAY!

I was dying over the wisteria flowing from all of the teeny narrow houses, the arboretum with the old capitol columns just hanging out in the middle of a field looking very post-apocoliptic, and of course Stephanie and Lou’s love for one another.

We sat, sipped, listened to their all-Portland musician playlist, and chatted about their upcoming September wedding.

Rachel and Cort gave me a sweet introduction to their neighborhood, the Pearl District. For Bostonians, it’s got the same feel of the South End only you know, with a Portland attitude (and twice as many amazing restaurants). I immediately started to look into apartments in that area, because while we do want to end up in a house with a yard for Emma, the Pearl would be so fun to live in for those first few months! I am so excited to get back out there!

I had to burn off some film from the day before and the last image here was the first frame I snapped when I met up with them. Although exposed completely incorrectly, I love Rachel’s expression. It’s ok to make mistakes.

I want to note some of my favorite personal thoughts that they put into their celebration. Stephen would always get a bunny cake for his birthday, made by his mum. Julie & Stephen have been making each other bunny cakes for each other’s birthdays, and since they were married on Stephen’s birthday, there had to be a bunny cake! Keep and eye out for bunnies (they are hoping to adopt one soon!) and snowflakes throughout their wedding! They spend their free time on the mountain, so they honored her with snowflake boutonnieres, and 3 hidden snowflake charms (they love the number 3) in Julie’s dress. Julie sprained her ankle on Mt. Hood just a few days before their wedding, but she still managed to walk and dance in her gorgeous heels! Stephen is a Professional Lighting Director (for some cool bands you probably listen to!), and I was spoiled with incredibly awesome lighting that you would see at one of his shows. Julie really wanted to do portraits inside this rundown building by their house that they play frisbee in frequently, so Stephen made that happen.

It’s so nice to have friends who you can sit around a fire with and each do your own thing and not feel pressure to entertain. That is what I love most about L & P. They are very chill, like us. We spent the 3 days in a cottage on the beach reading by a roaring fire, watching Emma chase ducks in the freezing cold water, cooking amazing meals on the grill (because why not!?) and just getting some rest and relaxation. We also hiked the crazy huge dunes, went to lunch at one of L & P’s favorite spots, played dominoes, and got an awesome tour of P-town because L & P frequent this area.

I grew up in Bar Harbor, Maine and my dad was a fisherman (he’s very proud of his 42′ scallop dragger) back in the day. I have fond memories of us digging for clams on the beach when I was little. One of my favorite parts of the trip was meeting these two men who were “quahoggin’” in the sand. There’s a part of the beach where every Friday and Sunday you can dig for clams with no license. One man, Paul, was so cute I had to photograph him. I’m a little shy when it comes to asking strangers to take their photograph, and Lara just went for it! She called me down and I grabbed a few snaps of them while she chatted and also grabbed some snaps.

All of these were taken on medium format film and is a mix of Kodak Portra 800 and Provia 400 – all processed and scanned by RPL. You’ll notice some of them have a blue hue to them and those are chrome film, which is something Lara introduced me to playing with! Here is Lara’s take on our trip!

I met Julie and Stephen for the first time at this divey sushi joint back in December. I did not realize that it was one of their favorite spots, such a favorite that they decided to have their rehearsal dinner there. After yummy vegetarian sushi and drinks the party continued over at Ground Kontrol. This bar is the home to tons of old school arcade games, pinball, a wonderfully pac-man tiled bathroom floor, and of course, beer.
