Leah & Vic are getting married later this month at The Garrison in the Hudson Valley. I met up with them last weekend in New York, where they live for some wine and photos. This is a perfect example of why I love to meet with my couples before their wedding day. I was a little nervous, having only met them on skype before. Now I feel like I will be returning to New York to photograph friends, people I am already comfortable with and who are comfortable with me. Thank you Leah & Vic for showing me around!

I could do jobs like this all day long. I love meeting up with families in their homes where they’re nice and relaxed for photographs. Just as they should be. It really is one of the best thing ever. I love rolling around on the floor with your kids just capturing where you are in life right now.

I’ve photographed this family a few times now, and each time it gets more and more fun. Thank you for continuing to invite me into your lives and allow me to give images like this to you.

I travelled to New York last weekend and had the most wonderful time with these two. It was one of those examples of why I love photographing my couples before their wedding. I had only met Leah & Vic on skype before, and when I see them at their wedding next month I’ll be seeing friends again, rather than clients. This photo was taken in Central Park. I’ll be posting more of these later in the week!

What If, Dominican Republic

I thought I would join other What If attendees in trying to explain what happened to us last week. I don’t want to speak for everyone, but I am pretty positive that every single person who was in the Dominican Republic last week is a different person today. There aren’t words that can explain in detail, you just had to be there. For me it starts back around Christmastime with my best friend Lara asking me to attend with her. At the time I was in a place where I could barely interact with my friends, and meeting new people seemed impossible. I will say that I was likely the least outgoing person there, and that is pretty characteristic of me these days. I am introverted, shy, and lacking in confidence. Especially after what I have been through this last year. People were opening up without fear of being judged, and it was beautiful to witness. I have discovered more about myself than I ever thought possible. I have a lot to say about What If – and I will say it here soon, but I haven’t finished processing my thoughts yet. “Processing my thoughts”. That is something I don’t say.

Day 1 I found myself complaining to Lara that I just wished this conference was happening 6 months from now, when my life would be “on track”. I felt like I was in the thick of “the shit” when I left Boston and that I wouldn’t be able to really take in what was being put in front of me. On day 2, I walked into Jonas’ talk, the lights were dim, some beautiful music was playing softly and the Holstee Manifesto was covering the wall. I got a weird shivery feeling and started to cry. I then decided that What If could not have happened at a better time in my life. 6 months later would be too late, and 6 months earlier – well, I am pretty sure I would have been audibly bawling my eyes out in the corner the entire time. February 4th-9th 2013 marks the turning point for me in my life. Thank you so so much, Jen & Steve.

Katie & Steve

Katie and Steve were married last month up on Lake Winnipesaukee at Church Landing. I photographed Steve’s sister’s wedding back in June and so it was so much fun to see some repeat guests! During the daylight hours we were given an amazingly perfect snow coating, the first of the winter. Katie & Steve absolutely did not want to see each other before the ceremony (which happened after sunset), but me and my sidekick really wanted to get them outside before the light went away. Thanks to their trust in us we got them outside and in a shot together, but they did’t see each other, he he!

Jen & Zach

Jen & Zach were married in late October on an insanely beautiful fall day. As I drove from Boston up and over to Grafton, Vermont, I was oooh-ing and ahhh-ing at all of the beautiful foliage. As a New England native sometimes we take these things for granted, but a 4 hour drive to Vermont on a clear day in the fall will put you in your place. Jen & Zach’s wedding was held at the White Church across from where their reception was held, at the Grafton Inn. I am just in love with this little town!

2013, I am ready for you

This last post of 2012 should be full of my favorite wedding moments of 2012 but to be honest, I haven’t finished editing all of my 2012 weddings yet and I haven’t blogged about 8 or so… This year has been a doozy to say the very least. For those wishing to skip the sob story, just scroll down and look at my favorite personal polaroids of 2012. I shot all of my personal photos with my polaroid cameras this year, and I loved it.

Thanks for continuing to read this part. This isn’t actually a sob story, because I don’t like to mope around and feel bad for myself. I would rather take that energy and focus it on something that will do some good. I can’t believe 2012 is over. I don’t know about you, but I am ready to put this year behind me. What I have learned over the last 12 months is this: if you take care of yourself, always try to be the best version of yourself and surround yourself with positive people, everything will be ok. Easy words to live by, right? Much easier said than done. I want to thank my photographer and non-photographer friends (most – if not all – of you are past clients!) for really being there for me this year. And I don’t mean I needed someone to drive 4 hours to bring me a backup camera. I mean you were there for me. I hope I never have to return the favor, but I gladly would in a heartbeat. I am really excited for what is to come in 2013. I am looking forward to photographing some wonderful couples all over the country, and focusing on what I think is most important in life. Thanks to this amazing job for helping me realize just what that is.

Ali & Dave were married on what I consider to be the first real fall day of the year at an adorable church in Southborough, MA. There were blue skies, lovely crisp air and the leaves were just starting to turn. Following their ceremony, friends and family gathered at The Barn at Gibbet Hill in Groton to celebrate.
